For homework:

1. Please read Chapters 11-14 of Charlotte’s Web.

2. Respond to the following question either in a written email to me or on the forum-- (200 word minimum):

To save Wilbur’s life, Charlotte thinks of a marvelous idea.  What is this idea? How would you have felt if you didn’t know Charlotte was behind all of this--would you think it was a miracle?

3. Please also come prepared to discuss your favorite scene from Chapters 11-14, and explain why it is your favorite. You do not need to write this on the forum.

4. Translate the following text from Ch. 11 into Chinese.

“A miracle has happened on this farm. There is a large spider’s web in the doorway of the barn cellar, right over the pigpen, and when Lurvy went to feed the pig this morning, he noticed the web because it was foggy, and you know how a spider’s web looks very distinct in a fog. And right spang in the middle of the web there were the words “Some pig”. The words were woven right into the web. They were actually part of the web, Edith.”

Charlotte saves Wilbur’s life by netting the words like “some pig” and “terrific” that is special into the web. And these things are special and people always are interested in it. So when the news  spread on a big range and more and more people know the news. So it makes more and more people think the news is full of the miracles. So owners also think it is a magical pig and give up the thought that kill the pig Wilbur this winter. So the pig Wilbur can pass the winter and save its life by the help of the Charlotte. I think if I don’t know the truth of the thing, I also think it is not a miracle, because I think animals also have their own feeling and idea and they can learn a lot of actions from human being including the language by living with human. I think animals only can’t express these behaviors by themselves, but they also can express these conduct by other ways like netting the words into the web. These phenomena are living in our daily life, but we don’t pay much attention to them. However the children like Fern can notice these subtle details so she finds out the truth.
