Reading Assignment: Read Chapters 5 and 6, pp. 68-99 of The 0utsiders
Writing Assignment: All of the boys in the novel seem to have a special affection for Johnny Cade. Describe some incidents in the novel where they show their affection for him and explain why they treat him somewhat differently than anyone else.
Please pay special attention to how you introduce the novel and the author into your opening and make your description of how they treat Johnny as specific as possible. In other words, instead of saying "In S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders, all of the greasers are nice to Johnny, " say something like "In S.E. HInton's The Outsiders, the members of the gang all treat Johny like a kid brother." In English, to treat someone "like a kid brother (or sister)" means to be caring and protective while not really treating the person like an equal.
