Reading Assignment: Finish The Goat and the Terror Birds

Writing Assignment:  The Goat and the Terror Birds consists of two narratives, or stories, with each chapter introducing a new part. Please summarize each story separately explaining what is happening with Mac at home and what is happening with his father in Patagonia.

 Start the first summary with this sentence: “Mac is the central character in the narrative that opens The Goat and the Terror Birds. “ Then describe where he lives and why. Explain as well what is happening around him. Who is nice to him? Who is not? How is he feeling when the story opens?

Start the second summary like this: “Mac’s story is not the only one in The Goat and the Terror Birds. A second story unfolds starting in chapter two where we learn about Mac’s Father Dylan.” Here again, describe where Dylan is and why he is there? What is he looking for and how does William the goat try to help him in his search?

When you write the summaries of each story, think about how you use verbs to indicate present, past or future time, for instance: "Mac had lost (past time) his mother but Aunt Maddy's presence makes him feel (present time) better."

    Mac is the central character in the narrative that opens The Goat and the Terror Birds. He live with his aunt Maddy and his cousin Suzie after his mother died. Because his father was gone and his mother was died. Mac was feeling very sad all the time, because his father was gone and his mother was died. One day, a goat moved in their old ruff house. The goat can speak and its name is William, and it knows what will happening in future. The goat says aunt Maddy, is going to sell the house, and they tried to stop her with a shrew troop. Rani is Mac's friend, she was nice to Mac because Mac never made fun of her stutter and they had fun together. But Rhett, Rani's brother, was very bad to Mac, Rhett and his friends call Mac "orphan boy", they are enemies.

    Mac’s story is not the only one in The Goat and the Terror Birds. A second story unfolds starting in chapter two where we learn about Mac’s Father Dylan. Dylan is a photographer. He is going to Patagonia and take a picture of the Terror Birds. He met a farmer in Patagonia. The farmer says the Terror Birds are very dangerous, but he still said to the farmer:"tell me, I can pay you." The farmer finally had promise to tell Dylan he can take him part way, but Dylan still has to go to the rest of the way alone. Dylan is very brave for take picture of the Terror Birds, because he knows his family and his son, Mac needs the money. Mac put his nice bike in the garage never ride it out side because he wants to wait for his father, Dylan.

@Mark Part I

You did a wonderful job summarizing the details of the story that takes place at home in the U.S.. You even managed to get the shrews into your summary. And you are right to do so. They are very important to the first part of the story and a summary would not be complete without them. I particularly love the phrase "shrew troop."

Part II

Great work here too. You clearly read and understood the story. And your summary shows it.

  You always have a gift for just the right ending. This writing is no exception. I like very much the way you finished with that sad little detail about the bike.

I will e-mail you with a few comments about grammar and punctuation. Well done!

Hi Enya, I like that short, direct ending:They hate each other. You also did a good job recording some of the  key details for both narratives. I'm especially glad you got in the part about the shrews, or as Mark would say, the "shrew troop."

I will e-mail you with  a couple of suggestions for grammar and punctuation.
