Reading Assignment: pp.55-91

Writing Assignment: Wilbur says that friendship is a gamble. Use Wilbur to introduce that idea. Then explain why you think Wilbur is or is not correct in how he sees friendship.

The introduction would go something like this: In Charlotte's Web, Wilbur the pig tells readers that friendship is a gamble. He suggests that a new friendship  brings with it the possibility of great joy or sadness and that uncertainty makes him a little anxious. At this point, you would state your agreement or disagreement with this idea.  Then go on to tell why you think the way you do. I'm sending you via e-mail an example of how I would continue it.

In Charlotte's web, Wilbur the pig tells readers that friendship is a gamble. He suggests that a new friendship  brings with it the possibility of great joy or sadness and that uncertainty makes him a little anxious. I don't think he is right and I think friendship isn't a gamble.

First, some people can make you feel good and some people can make you feel bad. I don't think you will make friend with a person who make you feel bad. So maybe it is just like gamble, but those bad people is not your friend.

Next, if you make your friends happy, they will make you happy, too. If they make you sad, may be you had already made them sad. Friendship make you feel good or bad is up to you.

So i think it is not a gamble.

Hi Mark, Well I have to say, your reasoning almost convinced me to agree. To a large degree, I think you are right. How much of a gamble friendship is depends  a lot  on the kind of friend you yourself are.

Excellent work!. I can really see (figuratively speaking) a good mind at work in your writing, and that makes reading it a real pleasure.

In Charlotte's Web, Wilbur the pig tells readers that friendship is a gamble. He suggests that a new friendship brings with it the possibility of great joy or sadness and that uncertainty makes him a little anxious. I don’t think he is right and I think friendship isn’t a gamble. If you make friend with good people, they will make you good. On the contrary, if you make friend with bad people, they may deceive and the friendship will be broke. If you don’t choose your friend, the friendship will become a gamble, you friend may betrayal you. But if you choose the right one to be your friend, the friendship won’t be a gamble and it will become good. So in the friendship every things is up to you, if you don’t want to make the friendship to be a gamble, then choose a good friend and have a good time with he/she.

Very nicely argued and many of the sentences are perfect in both their grammar and punctuation. I am impressed that you could write it after just returning from vacation.

And that's two out of three who don't think friendship is a gamble. I have to re-think my position. Perhaps we can discuss this further tomorrow in class, just for a few minutes. Nice Work!! Welcome back!

Hello,Laraine

In Charlotte's Web, Wilbur the pig tells readers that friendship is a gamble. He suggests that a new friendship  brings with it the possibility of great joy or sadness and that uncertainty makes him a little anxious. But I think it is wrong.A really friendship will never be a gamble.

A  friendship isn't a gamble. At first, before I and someone become friends,we must have some times together. In those time,I can see that people will be a good friend or he/she isn't. After I make sure he/she will not break the friendship, I will choose he/she be my friend if they agree. When we become friends, I must will try my best to not make them sad.

Two good friends must believe each other won't betrayal theirself. If someone think their friendship is a gamble, they have doubt to their friend, They will come distruster and distruster and they are not really good friends.
