Reading Assignment: Finish Bridge to Terabithia

Writing Assignment: The word transformation is central to the novel Bridge to Terabithia. A transformation is a dramatic change in appearance, thought, or behavior. Please write a paragraph or two explaining how Jess is transformed by Leslie’s presence in his life.

You can focus on one basic change or mention several. However, if you mention several, make sure you use nice transitions to get from one change to the next, for instance:” Leslie didn’t just teach Jess how to scuba dive; she also taught him how to be fearless." (I made the scuba diving part up just to give you an example)

Also, if you are going to talk about several changes, it might be a good idea to start off with a sentence something like this: "In Katherine Patterson's Bridge to Terabithia, Jess Aarons's life is transformed in a number of different and profound (deeply important) ways."

In the book Bridge to Terabithia, Jess was a shy boy at first. He did not speak a lot and do not have friends in school. He is not strong, so the bullies can bully him easily and they won't get hurt. But in the book, a open and bright girl, Leslie came into his life. They became good friends and they build a new world with their mind and they had lots of fun in it. Leslie made him be more happy and open, she also teached him to open his mind. After Leslie came into Jess's life, Jess also became more friendly to the others and want to help the others. And he and his sister, May Belle became good friends, too. And Jess became a happy boy. Although Leslie was passed away at last, but She still changed many things, isn't it?

This is very nice Mark, and I really like how you describe Leslie. The adjectives, "open" and "bright" are perfect. I like, too, how you say she "came into his life" and "they built a new world with their minds." This is a very, very good description of how Leslie transformed Jess's life, so much so that even he and his sister, the pesky May Belle,  became good friends.  Well done!

Here is Alice's response to the reading assignment:

Jess is a smart and kind boy, but he has been restricted by his parents. But when Leslie came to this school, Jess becomes a boy who has many creations. What’s more, he now cares about Janice Avery! Before, Jess got no friends in the school, but now he could play and cares about others, it’s great!

I would like to have a friend like Jess or Leslie.

In Bridge to Terabithia a book from Katherine Parterson. In Jess’s life, Leslie’s appear transformed Jess’s life. Leslie teaches Jess to open his mind, and build the Terabithia. She makes Jess to be outgoing, they even help Janice Avery. Before Leslie come, Jess’s life is boring. His life was changeless. But when Leslie come, Jess ‘s life become wonderful.

Hello,Laraine

Before Leslie came in Jess's life, Jess didn't have any friends. he is strange and shy at school and he was very afraid of Janic Avery. But Leslie changed him. Jess became braver and more care about others. Because Leslie is his first friend. So when Janice wants to bully Leslie, he didn't run away but stand in front of Janice and tells her that she is wrong!  And when he heard the crying from girl's room, he didn't just ignore it as before, he cared about this and helped the girl: Janice. He starts to have friends, even they are only Janice and Leslie, but he becomes sunny and happy.
