I'm posting the reading assignments for next week and also for the coming weeks, including while I am away.  Obviously, you can divide the pages up any way you want. What I'm offering is a suggested way to do it.

Reading Assignment: Please read pp.3-69 of The Road for next week.

While I’m away:

pp. 70-135 by September 27th

pp. 135-205 by 0dtober 4th

pp. 206-287 for  October 11th Last class

Writing Assignment: The Road is an example of dystopian fiction, which envisions a society that has gone completely wrong, often as a result of some catastrophe.  Can you write a paragraph or two in which you envision your idea of a dystopian world? It's the first day after a catastrophe that has destroyed the world as you know it. What do you see, hear, and smell? Are there other people around? Will they help you or are they your enemies? Are there any trees or flowers left? I have attached a photograph from The Road, to give you an idea of what the boy and his father see as they fight to survive.
