Hi Enya, Cindy, and Mark,

You were all terrific in class today!

The reading assignment for next week is to read chapters 7-9 in Sarah, Plain and Tall.

The writing assignment is to write a letter to Sarah as if you were Anna or Caleb. Use Sarah's responses to them to imagine what they wrote to her. If you choose, you can write two letters instead of just one.  Practice makes perfect after all, so the more you write, the better you will be as a writer in English.

P.S. Use the P.S. abbreviation we discussed in class at the end of your letter to include something you forgot to say in the main part of the letter.   Remember, P.S. stands for post script, meaning "after writing. "

@Cindy

These are wonderful responses, and good for you for playing both roles, brother and sister.

The letters you posted show you understood Sarah's letters perfectly. But they also show your gifts as a writer. I love the details about the cat and Sarah's brother.

If I could give your letters three "likes" each I would.

Excellent work.  See you soon. Laraine

@Enya

Your letters are just great. I am so glad that you did both. You clearly understood every word of Sarah's letters. Best of all, you used her letters to create your own.

I particularly like your including the emoticon. And I like that you mentioned the children's desire for a mother. The letters are a delight to read.

Great work from a great student.

See you soon.

Dear Sarah:

    I am Caleb Witting, Mr Jacob Witting' s son and Anna Witting' s brother. I know my sister did ask you a lot, yes, she is very verbose. But I still want to ask you something. What is your cat' s name? Does it like dogs? Our house is small, it is in the country with no close neighbors, but we love it. How about your house? I think it is very beautiful.

    Do you like small rooms? I do. Can you keep a fire going at night? That is really cool.

                  Very truly yours

         Caleb Witting

P.S. Do you snore? My Papa snore very loudly, just like a cow.

Dear Mark,

I don't know which I like more, the fact that your letter is so clever or the fact that it made me laugh out loud. I particularly the comparison of the father's snoring to a cow snorting (Note that  the letters snor have a consistent sound).

I can't wait to see what you will come up with next for a class writing assignment.

See you soon.

P.S. I hope you have some good and funny sentences ready for class. I am looking forward to more laughing.
