Reading Assignment: Please reading pages 25-55, Chapters 4-9
Writing Assignment: Please write one long paragraph or two short ones describing how life for Wilbur starts out once Fern has rescued him versus his life once he goes to Uncle Homer's farm. To direct the reader's attention to how life is going to change for Wilbur, use the time transition we talked about in class, "In apple blossom time."
That means when you have finished describing how Wilbur's life starts out, you should prepare the reader for a change based on time and use the apple blossom phrase to do it. One possibility might go something like this: "But when apple blossom time arrived...." or else "The arrival of apple blossom time brought with it big changes." Also possible is, "Apple blossom time did not bring good news for Wilbur." There are, in fact, many was to create a transition using the phrase "apple blossom time."
If possible, make one of your sentences match the pattern we discussed in class. In that pattern, the opening words set the time, for instance, "After Fern adopted Wilbur...." Then the writer introduces the real message of the sentence, for instance: "After Fern adopted Wilbur, the little pig could not have been happier." Those opening time setters should always be set off with a comma.
