For me, a hero is someone who knows what it means to be afraid. But whether man or woman, heroes don’t let fear stand in their way of helping others. They face their fears in order to make sure that those in need are safe from danger. Heroes are willing to risk their lives if it means saving the lives of others.
When the Twin Towers in America were attacked by terrorists in 2001, fire and policemen rushed to the scene. They were called "first responders." Their job was to find out who was dead and who was alive. They had to go into buildings ready to fall at any moment. They must have been very afraid. But they did their job anyway. Some of them died while in the act of saving others. All of the men and women who risked their lives that day were heroes.
