Louis Sachar's novel Holes gives readers the legend of Kate Barlow. Her story begins when the Green Lake is still the biggest lake in Texas. But Sam is a black man and Kate is a white woman. Other people in the town are racists and they are mad at it. So Trout Walker, the most rich man in the town, said that if Kate do not kiss him he will punish them. Kate did not kiss him so he killed Sam. Kate was angry and sad after that. So she kissed Trout after killed him and she became a big outlaw. After twenty years she went back to Green Lake and buried her loots. But when she is very tired, Trout came to her and asked her where did she bury her loots. Just then, a lizard killed her after she cursed him. So Trout did not know where is the loots and his descendants digs many holes to find the loots for more them a hundred years.

This is a great piece of writing on many different levels. I really like how you finished off the opening sentence I provided. That is exactly the right way to set the time for the reader: "Her story begins when the Green Lake is still the biggest lake in Texas."  You also correctly punctuated your use of the appositive, or restatement of a noun."When Sam, the man who sells onion came into the town, they fell in love.

And I'm impressed that you know the word "loot." I will send you some comments via e-mail. But this is very well done. You took a number of different events and made them tell the story of how Katherine Barlow became Kate the Kissing Bandit.

Because he found an error, Mark sent a replacement for his first piece of writing.

Here is Enya's response, which is really quite wonderful:

The story Holes has two past stories . The story about outlaw Kate Barlow is one of them. This story happened 110 years ago on Camp Green Lake. At this time£¨ the Green Lake was still a beautiful lake.
Kathrine Barlow was a nice school teacher. She taught people in an very old house and she could make delicious peaches. Sam was an black man, he sold onions. Trout Walker was the richest man's son. He likes Kathrine.

One day, after Katherine's adults°Ø class,  Walker stayed in the old house and said to Kathrine: Can she come boating with him in his new boat? Kathrine said no. Walker was very angry because he was the richest man's son and no one said °∞No°± to him! Another rainy day, Katherine was very worried about her leaked roof for teaching. At this time, Sam said to her:°± I can fix it°±AT this time, Katherine and Sams love story starts. Every time Katherine had any problems Sam would say:°±I can fix it°±.

One day they kissed . But at that moment, a people saw they were kissing. At the second day, Trout Walker knowed this and he is mad so he fired Katherines teaching house. Katherine was very helpless, she ran to the goverment. But the man there was drunk and he wanted Katherine's kiss! Poor Katherine had no ideas to stop what Trout Walker was doing. So she ran to Sam and they ran out tegether to the Green Lake . Sam drived his boat . But after a while, Walker was after them and he shotted Sam. Sam dead. AT this time , Katherine became Kate. Kate hated all people because they killed her hasband. So she became a world outlaw, too.

After sometimes, Kate backed to Camp Green Lake. This time the Lake is barren. Kate's heart was so hurted by Sam's dead.(She was ready to die) But one day, Trout Walker found her. HE and his wife Linda wants to get Kate's loot. Kate already buried them. Linda and Trout takes off her shoed and let her walk on the hot ground until she takes them to her loot. When they were walking, a yellow spotted lizard appeared. Linda and Tout missed it. Kate didn't fear. She leted the lizard bite her and she was laughing when she was dead.

Enya, There are so many great things to say about this piece of writing, I don't know where to start. Your transitions do a beautiful job of helping the reader follow the train of events. My favorite one is, "At this time, Sams and Katherines love story starts."

You also picked out exactly the right key events to tell the story, and your choice of quotes is perfect. I'm thrilled, too, that you are using the new vocabulary words we have discussed in class. And, of course, you are using them correctly.  It's wonderful seeing you write so much and so well.
