Great work going over The Catcher in the Rye! As homework for next weekend, please read chapters 10-13 (pages 74-110 for most of you).
Then, choose one essay question to answer. You can send this to me by email at least one hour before class.
1. Talk about Holden's red hunting hat. What have you noticed about it? You may discuss its color or what you think it symbolizes. How does he act when it is to the back or to the front? Please give specific instances from the book.
2. Holden is what one might call an "unreliable narrator," especially since he claims to be a liar himself. What are some things that he has told us in the book that may not be entirely true?
Last, please come up with one discussion question to share with your classmates.
You will have a substitute teacher, Maud, for this next class. So have fun and continue doing the great work you are all doing!
If you have any questions, feel free to email me. See you soon!
