Original Post

First, thank you so much for writing the definitions patiently for us, Audrey!^^

And I anwered the question and listed below.

1. The author uses the normal changes of natural world to describe the time in the book. For example, on “By now the sun was up and I climbed onto the rock.”, “I waited until the tide was low, which was clock to dawn, and filled a basket with sea water an abalones.”

2. Because of the isolated island, Karana had to cope with a lot of things on her own, like finding food, building house, making wagon and establishing the shelter for protecting her and the wild dog.

The environment changed due to the arrival of the Aleut. Karana and Rontu had to leave the house and hid themselves in the cave. Also there is a girl came into the island. Because of the girl, Karana changed totally that she started to trust people and communicate with real people instead of the natural world. Karana ignored the superstition of the island and told the girl her secret name without any fear. Also she spent 5 days to make a beautiful circlet for the girl. So due to the pure friendship, Karana began to care for other people instead of just worrying about her own life. And after the girl left, she finally started to feel lonely and ignore the scene of the island because of missing the beautiful time between the girl.
