For homework: Please read p. 1-47 (Chapters 1-9) of Holes by Louis Sachar.

Translate the excerpt on page 8 of Ch. 1 beginning “Stanley’s father was an inventor” and ending with “…as was every Stanley Yelnats before him” on page 9. Translate it into Chinese and then using your own words, translate it back into English.

Vocabulary Words We Learned:

Handkerchief: a square piece of material used to mop sweat--you can wear it on your head or neck or store it in a purse or pocket
Skimmed: Barely touching a surface
