Homework for Class #11: The Outsiders

Next week we will have a lot to cover! Please read chapters 1-5 of The Outsiders.

For new homework, please type a written response to this question: What is your definition of an “outsider?”

Then we will also be going over the homework that was assigned last week. To remind you, here were the assignments:

Translate the first paragraph of Ch. 1 beginning “When I stepped out into the bright sunlight…”

Please respond to the following on the forum about The Westing Game (300 word minimum):

Do you think the Westing Game turned out as Sam Westing hoped? Explain your answer.

Are you satisfied with how the story ended? What would you change, if anything.

1About the outsiders: I think the outsiders are people who are not successful and no hope for life.

2 I think the wesying game turned out as Sam Westing's hoped. Because Sam Westing wanted everyone thought he was dead, because of this game, his wish came true. In Sam Westing's eyes, his heirs were just playing a game with him, and everything seemed to be in control of Sam Westing. His heirs found different clues and found the answer of the puzzle or the game. Sandy was dead, and the heirs knew Sandy was Sam Westing, it means Sam Westing was dead either. So his wish was achieved---- Let everyone thought he was dead! So Sam Westing turned into Mr.Eastman. Everything was just as same as he thought.

3 I was very satisfied to see that Turtle Wexler won the game and everything were back into normal.

Lola's Homework:
In my opinion, there shouln't be any "outsider" in this world.I think the "outsider" is just someone who is different from others. In this book, Ponyboy was regarded as an "outsider", and was bullied by the Socs, the rich people, just because he was one of the greasers and was poor. So I think that "outsiders" only appeared in the places where have discrimination and gap between the rich and the poor. When the first time I heard this word, I thought of the film"The Imitation Game". Alan Turing, the father of the Computer Science, was also regarded as an "outsider" in his school because he was smart and different."Sometime it is the people who no one imagines anything of, who do the things that no one imagines." This sentence really impresses me.If everyone can understand this simple sentence, there won't be "outsiders" any more. And everyone in this world, no matter rich or poor, can live equally without violence.
