Hi Class,

Please read p. 118-154 (Chapters 20-24) of The Westing Game.

Find evidence for the following statement (250 word minimum response):

  • Whether they're hampered by beauty, ordinariness, or a disability, many of The Westing Game's characters are trapped by the way their bodies look; it's their struggle to define themselves outside of their appearances that makes them who they really are.

Translate the excerpt on p.145 in Ch. 23 beginning “O beautiful for spacious skies…” ending “From sea to shining sea.”

Important Memo: Remember to continue to write down and define challenging words in your vocabulary journals to recall and strengthen your usage of these words in daily conversations and writings.

Best,

Mr. Virgillo Hunter

There had lots of characters that were very special in this story, some were struggled because of the beauty, the ordinariness or the disability. I will use three special characters to improve this standpoint.
For instance, Angela, the perfect kid, she was beautiful, full of elegant and obeyed her mother’s instruction in any ways. When she was beautiful, she was struggled in her mother’s commands, she had to obey her because she was such an obedient child, she had already structured her image in people’s mind, all the invents loved her just because of her beauty and obedient. Everything changed since she was suffered from the bomb, she would be scarred for life, her beauty was gone. Nonetheless, she got the admires from her naughty sister—turtle, she protected her at the emergency period.
Flora Baumbach, the dressmaker who was very ordinariness and had nothing special, although she was not as conspicuous as Angela was, but she had a heart full of patient and love. She seen Turtle—the naughty girl that no one liked as her own daughter, and of course she gained the respect from Turtle. They played the stock market together and cooperated as partner in the Westing Game.
Chris, the unfortunate boy who had to fit in the wheel chair for life, had a tough heart, he never afraid to express his feeling to others, he always had the passion to find evidence and tried his best to figured out what those clues meat. When he knew that Denton Deere found a neurologist who could help him, he was very excited and he was expected he could live as a normal person like Baumbach even though he could not receive those compassion from other people.
Based on the thorough analysis the nature of those characters with special experience, I can tell that they were very tough when they met problems and never afraid the hampered that brought by their special appearance.
PS: Mr. Hunter, I need to apologize that I report my homework late, because I went to travel and I didn’t have enough time to finish reading the book and kept check the evidence. And also, Emma emailed the homework wrongly, so I just receive the homework yesterday. Sorry for being late.
