For homework, please read chapters 8-9.

Please complete the following on the forum if you are able. Otherwise, please email me:

  • Create a discussion question about Ch. 8-9 you would like to explore with your classmates. We will use the questions you create as a starting point for our next class.
  • What are some differences you can notice in the movie of Bridge to Terabithia and the book? Are the differences significant?

Please also translate the last paragraph on p. 105 in Ch. 8 beginning with “Leslie looked decent…” to “…ma’am naturally.”

In chapter 9, they went to the terabithia again. i suppose that they create the place Terabithia for two reasons. 1.To express the feelings that they cannot express in other places such as  their homes and schools, because their parents cannot understand them and pay their greatest attention, and there are many people at their school disliked them such as Janice Avery. 2. To strengthen the friendship between Jess and Leslie. They can get so much fun when they play the imaginary game.

but I don't understand why they have to go the the muddy Terabithia on a rainy day. Because they have changed the enemy who refers to Janice Avery into a friend. And they don't have to improve their friendship because they have just been to the church together.

In all, my question is that why they had to go to the Terabithia in chapter 9.

There are some differences between the movie and the book. in the book, Jess is a little cowboy because he always milk the cow. but in the movie, this scene didn't appear. and the way they play in the Terabithia is different in the movie. they spoke magic spell in the book to fight, but in the movie, they actually found the stones to fight, and there were even some imaginary creature such as giant Janice tree and Gary Fultcher monster. Because the movie is shorter than the book, so it has to conclude some more attractive details or element like the magic 3D effect. the movie gives our eyes and ears some sensual impact while the book give us an opportunity for our brain to think and make different scenes together and the chance to feel the emotion of the character in our own ways.

I think the movie is more vivid. And I think there is just a little different. By the way, I have to say that I'm sorry about that movie, because I couldn't see the movie clearly and fluently, so maybe there is some different I don't catch or I'm wrong.

I think first, at the beginning, the book said he didn't wear his shirt, but I think because this is a movie, so they let him to wear the shirt.Second, I think that he didn't went to the sink and wash himself in the movie. Third, the movie didn't have the scene that he is milking.
