For homework, please read Chapters 6-10 of Charlotte’s Web.

Please also consider the following questions, which we will discuss next class. To prepare, please write your thoughts on the forum:

1. Do you think Fern really can hear the animals? Or do you think Mrs. Arable is right and that Fern is pretending to hear the animals?

2. What do you think Charlotte will do to help Wilbur? How will she fulfill her promise that she’ll keep the farmers from killing Wilbur?

Please translate the paragraph on p.72 beginning with “Just the same, I do worry about her…”

I think Fern can hear the animals, because she stayed in the barn for a long time and got in touch with animals frequently. According to the conversation between Wilbur and Charlotte, what Fern told to her mother was right. And if animals can talk, why cann't Fern hear them?

It has been the history that I read this book, so I almost forget the whole story. But based on the current chapters, I think Charlotte would save the pig by keeping his enemies away or making Wilbur a special pig that deserves to be cherished. For example, she can use the silk thread or some rotten eggs to keep people away.

I think maybe she can't really 'hear' the animals. But she is a very good to all the animals, so she can feels their feelings and understands them. So Fern is not pretending to hear.

I think Charlotte will do something to let the farmers know that Wilbur is good at something else that can make money too. So as to so some tricks. Or maybe Wilbur can be thinner to stop the farmers from killing him.
