Tina:

Think of the novel as narrated in the third person, instead of by Christopher. Describe how this change would affect our views of the characters and the emotional impact of the novel.

The narrator of one story is really important toward the plots, settings and descriptions of the characters. A change in the narrative perspective is very significant toward the way the author gives out information and keeps the plot going.

In the novel The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time, the narrator is Christopher, so the author is using first person to give the readers the main idea of the novel. Christopher is a autistic child, so he certainly have his own way of sending out messages and telling us his stories. And using first person to narrate would definitely have a huge impact on our view on the characters and our emotional impact on the novel. The description of the thoughts of the main character, Christopher would have a huge difference. For example, a third person narrated story certainly cannot express Christopher's descriptions for his little world. Things like Christopher's hate for the color yellow, Christopher's love for math and the weirdness of Christopher's personalities cannot be fully expressed when using a third person to narrate.

Then, using first person to narrate also adds up to emotional impacts. For instance, nothing can illustrate Christopher's feeling of the whole world better than using his own view to explain, using his own mouth to speak out and using his own brain to think of his own feelings. Therefore, using Christopher's perspective to narrate the story can help develop the impact emotionally.

In sum, nothing can help illustrate the true feelings of Christopher and give the readers impression on the characters better than using Christopher as the narrator.
