For homework, please read Ch. 1 – Ch. 6 of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Then, please respond to the following:

Think back about our initial discussion of friendship and what type of relationship it is.  After reading the story, what can we add to the definition? For example, you might say that friendship can also change people and help them mature. Having friends and embracing childhood can allow individuals to escape the pressures from the “real world” and be comfortable in their own shoes.  What is your definition of friendship now? You may cite passages from Bridge to Terabithia to strengthen your response.

Translate the paragraph on p.7 beginning with “And it wasn’t simply an ordinary enormous chocolate….” ending with “rich smell of melting chocolate!”

Well, it may be difficult to explain… Everyone has a ‘world’ in their own heart. This world is very pure, it couldn’t influence by others’ mock, and it’s completely private. For examples, my own hobbies, the things created by my imagination, my works (like compositions), which boy I like (ha-ha, it’s just an example), my thoughts and so on are all including in my ‘world’. Sometimes, some part of this ‘world’ can be share with others who we trust (Jess shares his drawing with music teacher). However, I think after sharing some part of the ‘world’, this part can only be similar to the one you shared in others heart. It’s not copying because others have their own thoughts too. In the book, Terabithia is a part of the ‘world’ of Leslie. She shared this part with Jess. So this called ‘a secret world of their’. They have many commons, so the parts, Terabithias, in their heart are quite similar.

I think friendship is a kind of relationship that people can share parts of their ‘world’ with each other. A very, very small part can be enough, because there is so much reliance and so many commons inside.

for the Friendship of jesse and leslie, i think they were just friends. not like what ellie and branda said they were boy friend and girl friend. it's pure friendship not like the grown-ups. i agreed with the point that friendship can also change people and help them mature. friends are helping each other and the good thing is not only helps them mature.it heps a lot like the ability to work together... friendship is very importent.

Friendship is an imitate relationship between a few people with some similarities. friendship is the mixture of love, devotion, reliance and so on.

After reading, I think friendship makes people stop being jealous of his friend's achievement. (Jess envied Leslie because she ran faster than him, once they became friends, he started to accept it, which is like "yours is mine and mine is yours" )

Friendship also cures the scar which is caused by being ignored by others.(Jess is used to be ignored by his parents because of Joyce Ann, after having a friend, he started to smile and gigle, which is not mentioned before he met Leslie. )

Friendship also makes people remind of each other when they see or hear something that is worth-spreading.(In the chapter 9 THE PERFECT DAY, Jess think of Leslie when he saw the magic things, he wished Leslie to see those, too.)

Friendship is also the catalist to arouse one's potential and it fulfills people.(Before Leslie came to his life, he had no friend and the relatives are cold to him. After Leslie was gone, Jess agreed to let Joyce Ann in the Terabithia, which indicates that Jess came to unlock the gate of his heart and let others in.)

Friendship is the best memory of a person for a lifetime.(Although Leslie was dead, Jess would memorize her and the pictures of them playing together will remain forever.)

To sum up, friendship really add some salt to our daily life, and only the life with friendship is worthy to live.
