There are 134 emergency phones, also known as blue light phones, on buildings or in green areas on campus and 58 in elevators. Look for yellow call boxes and/or blue overhead lights to identify these phones. Press the red “Brown Police/ Emergency” button to be directly connected to Public Safety.
Medical: For emergency medical attention call Brown Emergency Medical Services at 401‐863‐4111. This number is answered 24 hours a day. After business hours, calls are referred to local area hospitals. For non-emergency medical assistance, call East Side Urgent Care at 401-861-3782. They are located at 1195 North Main Street, Providence. M-F 8am-9pm, Sat/Sun 9am-4pm. Lost Personnel:
1.) Upon reaching a destination, a meeting spot and clear set of time should be designated. Landmarks should be pointed out to help students remember the designated spot. If a large force is to be lost, immediately return to the designated spot and remain waiting until recognizable personnel arrive. If you are lost at such a location as a shopping center or the beach, promptly contact a RA and then either Ben or Sam.
2.) No students are allowed to move alone, even during special circumstances such as when seeking the bathroom or when attempting to find a drink. If such circumstances are met, students are to inform their respective RAs or SRAs. If the students are within visual range of a RA, they are then allowed to seek the restroom or fountain, but only with a “buddy” which may be a fellow camper. If a RA is not visible, then a RA must be found before continuing.
3.) If a member is to be lost- unable to be contacted, then the group must immediately alert Ben, a RA, and Sam. Other students are allowed to help contact the student through mobile devices, but are not permitted to physically search for the missing member.
4.) Look for Ben and Sam who shall be in the vicinity, but keep in touch with your RA as well. Once the lost student has been found, notify other parties immediately.
In case of Food Poisoning:
Notify the RA and then either Ben or Sam. Then rush the affected student to the nearest hospital or medical center. Any restaurant suspicious of having caused the incident should be contacted in order to find the source of the poisoned food.
In case of Fire:
1.) No matter the location whether in a classroom, at a restaurant, in the hotel or museum, etc, the first action is to understand the quickest and safest way out of the building.
2.) If a fire were to occur in a dorm, the responsible RA for the hall should be immediately notified and the fire should be put out. If the fire is too large to be easily managed, the RA should pull the fire alarm and then in an orderly and calm fashion evacuate the campers. Ben and Sam should be notified as well as the local police.
3.) Any and all students should be promptly brought to an open space where they are to be organized and counted. RAs should then organize a rescue party for any students unaccounted for. This is to be done beginning with finding other adults from any nearby locations. Indicate to them the clear direction of the fire.
In the event of a fire, remain calm. The residence halls are equipped with smoke alarms, pull stations, and fire extinguishers in case of such an emergency. Know the key location of the nearest pull station, fire extinguisher and egress stairway, and familiarize yourself with the evacuation routes in your building .
Lost or Stolen Property:
1, When property is found to be lost, RAs are to assist the campers in an investigation for the responsible person or simply to find the lost item. When the incident is cleared up, the parents of the student responsible for the stolen property are to be contacted.
In case of Drowning:
1. When on a ferry, students are prohibited from any type of “horseplay”. Students are not to climb on any railings (anywhere that could potentially put a student at risk) for any reason including for pictures, etc.
2. If a student were to fall into the water, surrounding students are to clear the vicinity and to notify rescue workers. The group is to then look for a RA, Ben, as well as Sam.
