I have put some clips of The Help on the Forum. At the very least, they can lay out the different characters for you. 

 

Here is a link to a summary of the book. It's not specific enough to help you much answering my questions in class, but it will be help you keep up with the plot when the dialect seems a little daunting (difficult)

Marla F C Holloway, a professor of English and law at Duke raved about the novel as “beautifully written” and said Ms. Stockett was clearly aware of the “racial tightrope she’s walking.”  What does Holloway mean by that metaphor? What is the "racial tightrope" Stockett is figuratively walking?
