Reading Assignment: Chapters 1-4 in The Outsiders
Writing Assignment: Throughout The Westing Game, the heirs involved redefine themselves. Their characters change dramatically, so much so that, by the end, several characters seem to have developed a different personality. Please write a few paragraphs explaining how change is a central theme of The Westing Game. Then illustrate that general point by describing significant changes in at least two different characters (three, maybe even four if you are feeling ambitious).
When you post your writing, please remember what we discussed in class. Each sentence creates certain expectations in the reader. As the writer, it's your job to fulfill those expectations or else clearly signal that the previous sentence was just background and you are switching gears (changing the direction of your thought) to go in a new and different direction.
By tomorrow night, I'm also going to post a few writer-based sentences like the ones we worked on in class. Please revise them to make them more reader-based and post them here or send them to me via e-mail.
