To begin reflecting on The Summer of the Swans, please discuss in a few sentences what it means to be different. Charlie is different because he is mentally handicapped. What are other ways that people are different? By posting your thoughts on our forum, we can read each other’s ideas even before our first class together.

To me, being different means possessing a quality or choosing to behave in a way that is not the same as other people. Differences among people include the color of their hair, their favorite food, their athletic ability, where they live, and what language they speak. Some differences among people are ones they can control and other differences they are born with. One thing that makes me different from other people is I have a tiny birthmark on my arm that looks like a shooting star.
