1. For homework, please read p.58-109 (Ch. 5-8) of Jacob Have I Loved.

2. Respond to the following in an email to me:

Considering what you have learned in the first four chapters about the characters and setting, what do you want to know more about? What are you most interested in learning about?

3. Begin a Character Log about Louise:

In Jacob Have I Loved, Louise’s feelings change frequently and at times they may even seem contradictory. Please keep a log (a list) for each chapter about how Louise feels and your emotions towards her as a character.

Shirley:

In first four chapters, the author was described the most important characters in this book, they are Louise and Caroline. Louise and Caroline are twins, Louise was the older sister and Caroline was the younger one. Louise didn`t like her sister, and she think she didn`t get love from her parent because Caroline .In chapter 3, Mr. Rice was choose a solo part for Caroline and Betty Jean. Louise was angry about why had he given the showy song to Betty Jean and a strange thin melody to her sister Caroline. This is family love, this is not friendship, this was higher the friendship.

I think this book want to talk about the relationship between Louise and Caroline, it means the relationship between twins. I want to know how they solve the problem when they have quarrel. I most interesting in their relationship and how the relationship will change in different event and different time.

James' Character Breakdown:

About Louise:

Call----- a good but humorless boy to be a brother, as well as a partner----- though it will be bored, I won't talk to a person who is humorless.

Caroline----- a living thing who brings her shock and unhappy sometimes----- though it is impossible, I still can't bear this kind of person live in this world.

Mr.Rice----- only know alomst all girls love him, but she doesnt care about him anymore------I agree with what she does and her opinion

Baltimore-----wonder is she ill-----she is Mr. Rice's wife, I won't care any thing of her, because it's not my businese and thinking about a woman who is not close to me is a waste of time

Mother----- a woman who takes more care to Caroline then me, every time i ask about myself, she will prevaricate----- I will try not to communicate with her unless I have to

Grandmother-----another woman who takes more care to Caroline then me, sometimes she is very kind to me----oh my god I will keep away from her so as not to hurt myself

"The captain"-----a polite and kind and mystrious man----- why not communicate to him? I think it is good to be friend with him, perhaps I can learn something new.
