For homework, please read the first 34 pages of the curious incident of the dog in the night-time. This will be starting at chapter 2 and reading through chapter 61 (the chapters are in order of prime numbers).

For your essay topic, reflect on the quote Mr. Antolini gave Holden: "The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one."  What does it mean to you?  Is it good or bad advice for Holden, and why do you think so?  What advice would you give to Holden?

Tom's Homework

The Advice means a man that is innocent would like to die with fame, but a man knows why he is alive would survive with modesty.

Actually this advice truly changed Holden, turned him into a half-mature man. Holden was depressed and doing nothing, after he went to Mr Antolini’s home he became a little bit normal because he thought he should hitchhike to the west, build a cabin( although I don't think he can build a cabin)and live there forever, he doesn't want to add pressure to his family. And the second thing is:After phoebe said she wanted to go with Holden, holden disagreed with her and stopped his imagination, and then they went to the zoo together and played with phoebe, that is a type of mature, because Holden used to behave impolite, he smokes, drinks and break rules. That is so called “ die nobly” to him, after Mr Antolini said the advice, Holden became mature and trying to be a good person. He also mentioned he want to be a catcher in a huge rye to catch children that possibly fall off the cliff. In my opinion Mr Antolini’s advice totally changed Holden and his view of life. Made him not trying to do everything in order to win a nobly death, instead, trying to live in the modesty is the real thing he Should do.
