Firstly, I want to point out my opinion about these two people. In general, I think they have something similar and something different.

Crooks is a black man. He is a person who is looked down on by others- not only the rich people, but also the white people who work with him. He is sad because of he is a black person. He lives alone and becomes a lonely person. It seems that he doesn’t want to make friends with others. However, he hopes to have a friend to talk with. He admires Lennie because  of the relationship between Lennie and George.

On the other hand, Curly’s wife is a white woman living in a rich life. She is powerful to those people who are  working on the ranch. But she also has her chagrin. His husband always thinking about how to make some troubles on the workers and never cares about her. It leads to the result both of curly and his wife don’t like each other so much. So Curly’s wife always  try to find something to do on the ranch. So she  seems has nothing to do and always brings troubles to Curly.

Comparing these two people, I find that they are both lonely. From the passage, we know she is not a good wife. But I consider about the reason. And I totally think she is trying to draw Curly’s eyes to care about herself. Although she said that she doesn’t like Curly. But I think it’s just a kind of angry words to Curly. Because in her mind,  she is so lonely. And I think Crooks is similar    with her. But because of his status. He could only complain about it alone. He can just stay in his room. He has no right to do something to draw people’s eyes. Actually, I think they are both secluded from other characters. But the only difference is that one is rich, but the other is poor. One can do something to make fun, but the other could only work and stay alone reading books.

Shirley:

Crooks and Curly`s wife are both secluded from the other characters in this book. If the people are secluded people, they might have some impact of their growth. I think in this book they have different reason to secluded form the other characters, but they are all impact from the society that they have at their growth time.

Crooks are the new character in this chapter. He is a black people.100 years ago, I think they are inequality between black people and Caucasian. Black people can`t contact Caucasian, it make crooks can`t contact other peoples in this village, and in this village there are all Caucasian. So Crooks are secluded to other people. Maybe, some people will say the people in this book are all want to talk with Crooks, and Crooks are not very kindly. I think this happens are not just on his own. This all happens are made of society that they have.

Curly`s wife are another person that are secluded from the other characters. In my mind, when she have a communication with other people, she always disclose that she didn`t like this worlds, and she dissatisfied to this worlds. She always thinks if some things happen and she can gat a more good life. I think this are also made of society, the society makes woman can completely her dream and society destroy that she want to do. And then, she will be very angry and very sad about her life. She will didn’t trust people and didn’t want secluded to others.

Crooks and Curly`s wife have different reason that they secluded from the other person, but they all impact from the society that they have.

James:

Compare Crooks and Curly's wife

When I first saw Crooks, I thought he must be a sealing-self  person and a simple and honest person. He is a negro and that time is called Depression era. I'm not sure whether Martin Luther King have given a speech to the whole world. But what I'm sure is that Crooks is discriminatoried . Although he is a simple and an honest man, his advantages can't be found and be admired. And that cause his sealing-self manner to the others. As he said, when he was young, he was used to play and sleep with white people. But then he grows up, things have changed. I think this is a reason why he acts a bit unfriendly with the others. Maybe the writer want to tell us how racial discrimination destroy people. To Curley's wife, she is a clever woman, she know a machine can't hurt his husband's hand like that. And she is a mean person, too. She is unpolite to the workers. She must be a flatter woman, because no man will like a mean woman to be his wife.

I think the writer create these two people is not only to compare them with each other, but to show the poor of Crooks' life. And to show the great disadvantage of racial discrimination.
