For next Saturday, please read p. 95-139 (Chapters 22-30) of Holes.

Based on our discussion of superstitions in class, answer the following:

What superstition exists in the novel Holes? Is there more than one? How does the belief in each superstition shape the lives of the characters in the story? Consider Elya Yelnats and Madame Zaroni (no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather...) The Warden, her grandfather, and the holes being dug at Camp Greenlake. Do you have any other superstitions that we didn't talk about in class?

Attached to this post is the word search I showed you in class.  Find all of the words if you can, and make sure to look up the definitions of the words as you go along!

The curse of a witch to punish Elya Yelnats. So Stanley's family all believed their bad lucks were all because of the great-great grandfather. There is also another two curses which was mentioned through P95-139. Hattie Parker saw Miss Katherine and Sam kissed, so Katherine cursed him "God will punish you!" In another occasion, sheriff cursed Miss Katherine because she did't kiss him: "The law will punish Sam and God will punish you."

It's obvious that Elya Yelnats didn't believe the curse. But the curse will come true sooner or late.

I think the Warden believed the curses, that's why she convinced people to dig.

For Stanley himself, he believed the curse. So he really hate his grand-father. He also showed great excited on the mountain which the shape of it just like a thumb, because he thinks his grandfather was caught at the top of that mountain.

There are severl curses. First, apparently Stanly's family were cursed by the witch because Stanly's grandpa did not fulfill the promise. Second, as a interllude of the story, when Miss Katherine and Onion man kissed, parker saw them and said that they would be punished, after that Sam was killed and Miss kartherine lived in sorrow and also the Green camp would never have peach plants and water any more.

I think becuase of the curse, after having some unfortunate thing, stanley would not blame himself, but his grandfather. Also,Stanley's grandfather, after he was cursed,he became unlucky every day, so did stanley's family. And then, warden compelled people to dig holes because of the interlude I talked before.
