Sally:

I want to write about the background of this book. The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the town of West Egg in the summer of 1922. Fitzgerald was inspired by the parties he had attended while visiting Long Island, and began planning the novel in 1923. Twentieth Century twenty’s was a special period in America history. The first World War have just ended and it brought great economic and social change. It’s brought huge amount of wealth to Americans. Money became the only way to judge whether a person is successful or not. People was crazy about money, aspiring to become wealthy.  For Daisy, she realize that she is not happy and his husband has mistress, but she will not left Tom because he is rich. And for Myrtle, she dislike her husband after she found out he was poor, and she stay with Tom because he can provide her what she want. Money bings out many many more rich couples, but among them how many truly loved each other? Money bings them together but could also give them a dark life.

Also, women at that time rarely had rights. Just as the novel said, “It seemed to me that the thing for Daisy to do was to rush out of the house, child in arms”. Females belongs to their husband, the were just part of their husband’s wealth. They were like pets that must listen to their musters. It was such a tragic!
