Hello!

For homework, please finish reading Sounder!

Then, choose one of the book's themes.  Write an essay talking about this theme and demonstrating how different parts of the book fit into and create the theme. (Possible themes you could use: the importance of literacy, education, racism, family, growing into an adult, loneliness, dog is man's best friend.)

If you are unsure of any new vocabulary words even after you look them up, write them down and we will go over them!

Have fun!

My topic is education.
As far as I'm concerned, education is increasingly becomging the tool of development of the society. Thus, parents start to focus on our studies and grades. There are two kinds of education, one is Chinese education system, the other one is Western education system. The Chinese education system cares more students' grades. The Western education system cares more students' personality and comprehension ability. Why there will be two different kinds of education system? There are so many reasons can explain it. One of the most important reasons is the different culture. And the population is in the next place. But both of them work for the society. Maybe many people will ask, why should we study so hard? Well, it seems like a very simple question but it's not. Education is the main tool to make our country stronger. Education and knowledge have been playing a key role in the national science development. And science and technology is not only a country ’ s first productive force, but a country's foundation. So we can draw a conclusion easily that if we study well and we know and we want to do something for our society, we are gonna make it!

In my opinion, I think that this books major theme is about the children's growing under that dark time and descrimination. As all we know, because of their skin color, they didn't lived a good life. Before the boy's father was sent to prison, the little boy still lived happily, for he didn't get to know the outsider world very well. He was under his family's protect, so he was still a carefree child. But things changed when his father was caught. The little boy got to understand a little bit of what happened to his family, and he knew that he had to grow up, for his elder brothers and sisters, his mother and father, and for himself. It was sad to grow up and do the things that didn't match his age, but life made him to do so and he even didn't have the right to choose. He went on the journey of visiting his father and searching for Sounder. This showed us the journey of the boy's growing up. On his way, he was treated badly by lots of people, but there was also some good people like the teacher who was kind to his hurts and read him stories. He went through so many things and the destination of this journey was finally growing up. Maybe this is also the thing that the writer wanted to tell us, although most of the people treated you badly, you felt it is unfair, but this doesn't mean we shouldn't believe the good things exist in our life. Every child needs and has to grow up, you has responsibility to carry on, and if others are mean to you and don't give you a help, try to be a shining sun to light up yourself. This world is so big and your life is so long, you will be treat gently finally.
