Janet's Homework:

1What is the significance of Sara giving life to the newborn twin baby girl?
A: Sara's twin daughters will be a new cycle, just like Sara and Caroline. But I think there will be a difference from the former, because Sara knows  how painful it feels. So she may pay the same attention to both of them. And Sara will let them make their decisions of their life by themselves, they will be happier than their mother.
2Why do you think the author ended the novel with that story?
A: Sara gave birth to the twins, it just like Sara's mother gave birth to Sara and Caroline, the new twins will be a new cycle, I think the author end the novel with that story because it can make us to think about how the new twins' lifes will be like. On the other hand, the twins just like the new hope, it means that they will have a new and different story and life. It seems like the author expressed the hope to the new twins: She hopes their tomorrow will be brighter. It also reflected the war was ended, the world will enter a new period.

Lola's Homework:

I think that this story is the most significant turning point in this book. Since Sara was born, she has been jealous and even a little hate on her sister because she was the beautiful and talented one who always got others attention. Because of Caroline's illness, her parents put her in a basket and left herself a alone. Everyone cared about whether there was any matter with the elder one and nobody even noticed Sara. This kind of unfair situation continued and had a bad influence on little Sara's heart. But then things got changed, she met Call and Captain. She was growing up and got to know that she needed a goal and made effort to achieve it. She wanted to go out of this island and see the outside world. She wanted to be different so that people would appreciate her and wouldn't compare Caroline and her. And the more important thing was that the relationship between them weren't as bad as what she imagined, in the deep of her heart she knew that they loved each other and they were twins, the only problem was that both of them didn't know how to love each other in a right way. So Sara was changing quietly. When she went to Catholic and married Joseph, she almost let it go, but there was still a knot in her mind. This story finally let Sara understand that they were both loved and there was no use to be jealous but to become a better self. The new born twins were just like Caroline and Sara, and Sara's behavior let us know that she really understand the meaning of life and it also made up for regret. The ending with this story let us finally witness Sara's growing up, and it let us understand that jealous is useless, if you try your best to achieve your goal you will win your own life some time in the future, and I am sure that Sara will lived with Joseph and their children happily from then on.
