They are stranded because Karana left the crowd to take care of her brother. Her brother was left on the island. If i'm Karana, i will left the ship and go back to my brother because i don't think it's safe to leave him alone. Because i'm the biger sister, i must take care of him because there's wild animals on this island and they are stronger than him. Even the ship won't come again, it's better to live with both of us than just a 12 years old boy.

Ramo misses the ship because he has to get the fishing spear. When Karana finds that, she jumps in to the sea and swims back to the island. If I am Karana, I’ll also leave the ship for Ramo. I think keeping my brother in safety can make me feel much better than leaving him behind just for my convenience. Worry and feel sad about the one who we love so much is really a great punishment to us.

Ramo got back to the village for his fishing spear. However when the ship was leaving, he was still on the beach. Under bad weather condition and giant rocks in the sea, the ship could not turn back. Karana wanted to stay with him, so she jumped off the ship and swam to the island.

If I were her, I would do the same. because I am the elder sister and my father has just gone to the heaven, he is my only family besides Ulape, and I have to be responsible for him. He is too young to take care of himself, when I give something challenging to other people who are not able to handle it, I also feel insecure.

Because of the storm, the boat couldn't stay long. Ramo went back to get his fishing spear so he missed the boat. When Karana saw his brother on the beach, she jumped in to the water and swam back to the island. The boat went away. I think I will not go back for Ramo. Chief Matasaip said that the ship will come back for him. And if I'm on the ship, I can tell the captain that someone is still on the island. But if I go back to Ramo, no one will realize that some is not on the boat, and maybe we can't survive on the island. Ramo is not a little kid anyway, he know how to live for a short time. So we can pick him up after the storm.

Nancy, you show you are a compassionate person in your answer Here are a few English corrections, though your idea is great. In your second sentence, I would write, "When Karana discovers this….". In your third sentence, you can write "If I were Karana, I would also leave the ship for Ramo. I would re-write your last sentence as, "To worry and feel sad about someone we love so much…."

Dear Jimmy-- great explanation for how Ramo was stranded! Except I would write "Ramo went back…" You should also say "under bad weather conditions". In your second paragraph, take a look at your last sentence-- you should separate your ideas with a period or connect your thoughts with a word like "and". Nice reflection.

Hi Sally-- cool, your idea is different then some of your classmates, and you give good reasons for your argument! Here are some English corrections: in the second sentence, "into" should be one word. Later, you should state, "I think I would not go back for Ramo." You should join your last two sentences as one, "Ramo is not a little kid anyway, and he knows how to live for a short time, so we can pick him up after the storm."
