For homework, please read Chapters 6 – 7.  As you're reading, keep in mind new vocabulary words that you'd like to discuss in class.

Please complete the following on the forum if you are able. Otherwise,
please email me:
1. Create three discussion questions about Ch. 6-7 you would like to
explore with your classmates next class. We will use the questions you
create as a starting point for our next class.
2. Write one paragraph describing how in Ch. 6-7 the author further
develops one of the themes we discussed today in class.

Then, translate the first page of Ch. 6 into Chinese.

Hi guys!

Kitty had a great question about the themes, which made me think I should write a short review on what a theme is and what themes we talked about in class!

Every story has a theme (a main idea). It is what the author wants us to think about while we read, and after we read. A theme is not something that we will be told about directly by the author; instead, we have to be like detectives who look at evidence and make a conclusion. By thinking about the author’s life, the story’s characters, and the plot, we can find out what a theme of the story might be.

There is no wrong or right answer to what you think the story’s theme is. All authors are different, and all readers are different too. Everybody will have their own conclusion when they finish reading the story.  In class, we talked about some of the themes of "Bridge to Terabithia" as fate/destiny, personal growth, friendship, and fitting in, and growing up.  Use one of these or think of another main idea in the story.  Then do the assignment: write a paragraph describing how the theme you chose is still being developed in the new chapters.

PART1

Three discussion questions

1.What power made Leslie persuasiveness Janice?

2.In this book,I think Jess’s parents were more keen on May Bella.Do you think whether it’s fair to Jess?Why?

3.On p86,Jess thought:There was something weird about a grown man wanting to be friends with his own child.He ought to have friends his own age and let her have hers.Don’t you think Jess is a little bit envy about Leslie and her father?

PART2

I think the author mainly wanted to tell us how important the friendship is!On p78,there is a sentence:Leslie began to laugh.It egged Jess on."I think Leslie affect Jess a lot.It told us

they were really good friends.Leslie really changed Jess a lot,she brought good and active attitude to Jess and let Jess not to be self-abasement, don’t  pay  any attention on his sisters’ sauce.

In ch.7,Jess helped Leslie paint their house or work out some problems.They

often help each other and it can also embody the friendship between Jess and Leslie.
