For homework, please finish reading the book (Chapter 26-30!

On the forum, please create three discussion questions to lead next class when we discuss the ending of the book.

Then, write a few sentences on the forum discussing the implications of madness being a positive or negative thing, as we debated at the beginning of class.  (During this entire tour of the chocolate factory, Mr. Willy Wonka is completely nuts. However crazy it is, the kids are along for the ride. The entire trip is bizarre and mad, but they should just enjoy it right? How should they accept this craziness? Should we embrace madness or is it too dangerous and we should we defy it?)

Please translate p.142 beginning with “Mr. Wonka suddenly exploded with excitement…” until the end of the page.

Select some vocabulary words or phrases that you do not know.  Either look them up in the dictionary before class and tell the class what you found, or write them down so we can find out the definitions in class.

1) Why Mr. Wonka didn't tell the children he wanted to chose one of them to inherit his factory first?

2) On P142, what made Mr.Wonka have a hunch that Charlie can inherit the factory at the beginning?

3) Mr. Wonka said that he is much old than Grandpa Jae, but why he looked so talktive and energetic?Do you think Mr. Wonka made a chocolate that can keep people young forever?

I think it depends on the situation.Wonka was madness in the story, it can brisk th mood and let everyone to be excited. But if he is so madness then it may bring a bad consequence. The kids should accept the madness, they should enjoy the tour and have a good happy mood. Also they must obey the rules. I just think Mr. Wonka is brillant and greatness, kids should respect him

I agree with you, Kitty.  Some things kids can't control, even if it may bring bad consequences.  Too bad the kids weren't all good enough to listen and respect the genius tour!

Just as a note, the words "mad" and "madness" are a little bit different.  If someone IS mad, then it needs no "ness."  If someone HAS madness, then the whole form of the word needs to be there.

I think it has different answers. Because mr.Wonka's madness made all the people feel relaxed and happy, when they were in danger, and also the madness let mr.wonka created such many incredible inventions. However, for kids, it is a bit of unfair, because they were just little children, they did not know what the world really like, and Mr.wonka just made them strange and disgusting. It is a pity. May be without the trip, the other kids would have a better future.
