Reading Assignment

Attached is the rest of the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. Please finish reading it and be prepared to answer the questions at the end of the story. We will go over them before returning to Many Moons. Please note:  You should look up the words in red. The words that are more difficult but not essential to your vocabulary are printed in blue. I have provided the definitions for them.  The definitions are there to help you read the story. Adding these words to your vocabulary is not essential. However, I certainly won't complain if you do.Below is a drawing of Gretel tricking the witch.

Writing Assignment: Try your hand at writing a brief fairy tale. Start the fairy tale with the phrase often used for such stories, "Once upon a time." Your fairy tale can tell any story you choose. Just make sure it has a moral or point. Your fairy tale doesn't have to be about people. You can also make it about talking animals. I will post an example by Sunday 10/12.

 Hello laraine,

 Here is my story.

Long long ago, there was a turtle and a rabbit in the forest. The rabbit is pride because she is faster than the turtle.

One day, The rabbit met the turtle in the forest,"How are you ,turtlr? she asked,"I don't think the exercise can make you little faster than ever." I am fine We cando a match about run!The turtle said he is ungry."OK, tomorrow morning, still at here, and the goal is there"She pointed at a hill, said.

It is the next morning, tturle and rabbit are all ready for run. They shouted together:"1, 2, 3, Go!"The rabbit just like lightning, over the turtle very much. And the turtle is very slow. The rabbit is thinking:H ha! he is too slow!and she stopped, go on sleeping. And fur after the rabbit, the turtle is still running, he is tired, too.but his mind tell him:"insist! insist! Do not stop!"

Finally, when the rabbit wake up,she saw the turtle is at the goal.

He is win.

Very, very nice, Enya. I like that the rabbit thinks she is so ahead of
the turtle that she can take a nap. But during that time, the turtle keeps
going and won't give up. I liked too, what the turtle tells himself.
"Insist! insist! Do not stop!" We will discuss the moral of your story in
class tomorrow. See you then, Great work. Laraine
