We are finished with classes about "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson," and so you can finish reading the last two chapters on your own time.

For next week, begin reading Beverly Cleary’s book Dear Mr. Henshaw (pages 1 – 33).  Then, make three discussion questions about the reading, just like we did in the last book.  When you're reading, make sure that you ask yourself the following questions to understand the book (you do not need to write these answers on the forum, just ask yourself):

  1. Where are the characters?
  2. Why are they there?
  3. What are they doing there?
  4. Why is this important?

Here are vocabulary words that we went over this class.  If you have time, use three of these in sentences.

  • Segregation (separating people by color of skin)
  • Racist (describes someone who judges another person based on the color of their skin)
  • Ignorance (being very stupid or uninformed; without knowledge)
  • Religion (the spiritual beliefs and worships that a person may have--they may be Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, etc.)
  • Babysit (when you get paid to watch over someone else's children)
  • Penpal (someone you talk to only in letters)
  • Prolonged (something that takes a very long time--longer than it should!)

Have fun!!  You can always email me with any questions.

Audrey
