Hello!

Congratulations on finishing Holes!  As homework for next week, please read the Introduction and Chapters 1-5 (p.1-28) of Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell.

You will each be "playing teacher" in class. Please create three meaningful discussion questions about Island of the Blue Dolphins to lead our class with.  You can write them down and send them to me in an email before class.

Last, translate the last paragraph on page 8 at the beginning of Ch. 2 that reads “Our island is two leagues long and one league…” and ends with the words “…because of its shape, called it the Island of the Blue Dolphins, I do not know.”  (For your information, a "league" is a measurement of distance, about 5.5 kilometers.)

Translate this from English to Chinese first.  Then, looking at the Chinese translation, write it back into English using your own words.  It's okay if it's different than the original!

Have fun!
