Reading Assignment: Read the last three sections in Sarah, Plain and Tall. Review all of the vocabulary covered in class so far, including prefixes, roots and suffixes so that we can do a quick review as we did today.

Writing Assignment: Imagine that you are Anna or Caleb grown up, say you are twenty five, and are writing a letter to a friend describing what you felt when you first saw Sarah, e.g. "She was wearing a yellow bonnet and carrying a big bag."  (e.g. is a short hand way of saying "for example")

What do you remember thinking about how she might change your life, e.g. "I knew I wanted a mother but I didn't know if she would be it. I didn't even know if liked her yet"  Then explain how your life changed after she came. "After Sarah came, I started to feel...."

Remember, adjectives like pretty, smart, old, young, quick, and frail need the verb "to be" or "to have" in some form, for example.  " She was tall and had a nice smile."

Your ads for class were fabulous. I can't wait to see your latest letters.

Hi, my friend:

Do you remenber me? Yes, I am Caleb Witting. Now, I am twenty-five years old, Ha Ha! Just like you, not a little little boy. You my mother had died when I am a baby, and then, my Papa get a new bride, her name is Sarah. She is became my new mother. Have you visited her? Oh, yes. She is plain and tall. At the first time I saw her, she was wearing a yellow bonnet and carrying a big bag. So I always guess what is in that big bag. Some clohes? Some food? Something from the sea? Sorry, I don't know. And I think she is very friendly and happy, she will be my good new mother, and Papa' s good new bride.

Sarah changed our new life. before she came to our house, Papa was too busy, my older sister, Anna and I have nothing to do. And after she came, We felt more happiness: she can help Papa to work and play with us. All of us were love her very much.

This is all the things I want to say, bye, my friend.

@ Cindy,

You wrote a great letter. And again, your vocabulary if very advanced. I was happy to see that you knew the meaning of  the adjective "naive." And you used it correctly with the verb to be, "he was always so naive."

One of my favorite lines is "But when she came I started to feel more happiness...."

Great work from you, but I am not surprised by that. You always do great work.

Best, Laraine
