James' Homework:

(1) The boy’s father and mother represent two different attitudes toward life. What are those attitudes and how do you know that?

The way that the boy's father's attitudes toward life is to keep silent. The symbol of his attitude is showed when he was being taken away by the police. He choose to keep silent and only obey. And the way that the boy's mother face life is to sing out the strong heart. We have read that on her way to the store, she sang, and she sang to the boy, too.

  (2) What are the boy’s feelings about the man in the jail who ruins the cake and how do you know that those are his feelings? In other words, what from the book would prove your point?

In the book , the writer mentioned may rude actions and words such as ruin and git that the man did to the boy. So it is a very clear symbol to prove that the boy hate the man.

Kevin:

  1. Write a summary:

The poor life of the boy went on. After the boy’s father was arrested and Sounder was shut, the life of this family was even harder. The boy often went out looking for Souder’s body but he found nothing. His mother suggested him to learn to lose. Before Christmas the mother sold some kernels and some meat, and bought a bottle of vanilla flavoring. At Christmas, she baked a cake for her husband in jail. The boy went into town and brought the cake to his father.

  1. Create 3 discussion questions:
  1. How did the boy feel when he was in town?
  2. How did Sounder’s disappearance affect the boy’s life?
  3. How can you see this family had a very poor life?

Shirley:

(1)The boy’s father and mother represent two different attitudes toward life. What

are those attitudes and how do you know that?

Mom `s attitude is positive, she use singing to relive stress.

Father`s attitude a little bit terrified or truth, he told so many true things to boy and just talking like man to man.

(2) What are the boy’s feelings about the man in the jail who ruins the cake and how do you know that those are his feelings? In other words, what from the book would prove your point?

Father was destroyed the cake, and do not let boy coming again, he told boy here aren`t a good place.

(3) Why does the red-faced man in the jail call up this memory for the boy?

It makes boy memory, because that`s horrible. He never seen that before, can he can`t believe the things just happens and he also scared the things will happen on his father again.
